Sermon # 783
“A Woman & Wisdom”
Proverbs 3:13-18 “Blessed is the man who finds wisdom, the man who gains understanding, for she is more profitable than silver and yields better returns than gold. She is more precious than rubies: nothing you desire can compare with her. Long life is in her right hand; in her left hand are riches and honor. Her ways are pleasant ways, and all her paths are peace. She is a tree of life to those who embrace her; those who lay hold of her will blessed.
Wisdom is more profitable that silver and yields better returns than gold.
More precious than rubies
Nothing you desire can compare to her.
Long life is in her right hand
Riches and honor are in her left
Her ways are pleasant ways
Her path are peace
She is a tree of life to those who embrace her.
Those who lay hold of her will be blessed.
Proverbs 4:6-9 Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love her, and she will watch over you. Wisdom is supreme; therefore get wisdom. Though it cost all you have getting understanding. Esteem her, and she will exalt you; embrace her and she will honor you. She will set a garland of grace on your head and present you with a crown of splendor.”
Do not forsake her, and she will protect you
Love her, and she will watch over you
Though it cost all you have
Esteem her, and she will honor you
Embrace her and she will honor you
She will set a garland of grace on your head
And present you with a crown of splendor – you will be honored and respected
Proverbs 31:10 “A wife of noble character who can find? She is worth far more than rubies. Her husband has full confidence in her, and lacks nothing of value. She brings him well, not harm, all the days of her life.
Proverbs 9:1 “Wisdom has built her house, she has hewn out its seven pillars. She has prepared her meat and mixed her wine; she has also set her table. She has sent out her maids, and she calls from the highest point of the city. “Let all who are simple come in here!” she says to those who lack judgment. “Come, eat my food and drink the wine I have mixed. Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk. In the way of understanding.”
Proverbs 14:1 ‘The wise woman builds her house, but with her own hands the foolish one tears her down.”
Proverbs 8:1 Wisdom Calls…
(v22) The Lord possessed me at the beginning of his work before his deeds of old; I was appointed from eternity, from the beginning, before the world began… (v30) Then I was the craftsman at his side. I was filled with delight day after day, rejoicing always in his presence. Rejoicing in his whole world and delighting in mankind
I Peter 3:7 Husbands, in the same way be considerate as you live with your wives, and treat them with respect as the weaker partner and as heirs with you of the gracious gift of life, so that nothing will hinder your prayers.”
Be considerate as you live with your wives
Consider them also, not just yourself.
Be thoughtful of their interest/feelings
Treat them with respect...
They are not your servant.
They are not your child
They are not lower than you or of less value because they are a woman.
They are not to be less respected/have less of a place because they are a woman.
As the weaker vessel
Even though you are stronger
Even though you can be more intimidating or threatening as a stronger vessel
Don’t manipulate her that way
Don’t use your power/strength to control her = this is disrespecting her
As heirs with you
So, that nothing will hinder your prayers
If you mistreat your wife, your prayers will be hindered.
Proverbs 12:14 “Houses and wealth are inherited from parents, but a prudent wife is from the Lord.”
